I don't buy music a lot. Most of it is crap and I really haven't liked any of it in the past few years. I bought this last night and I haven't taken the second disc out of my cd player. I burned a copy for my room, car and of course onto my computer. I'd definately say it's worth the $13.99 I paid for it. Not a disappointment at all.

It came with 2 discs, the first being more modern, dance, r&b stuff. The second has more of an older vibe, it's good. The first disc was good, the second is awesome. Her voice just blows me away.

It is touted as a "throwback to 20's, 30's, and 40's jazz." And I haven't listened to anything other than the single they keep playing on the radio and MTV, but it is NOT '20-'40's jazz. I guess the only thing that isn't completely sending me off on a rant is that the publicists are not claming it's like '50-'60's jazz, which would compare her to the greats (Billie Holiday (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billie_Holiday), Ella Fitzgerald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ella_Fitzgerald_discography), Sarah Vaughan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Vaughan)). But, if putting your voice through a filter, hiring a brass section for hits, and setting your drum machine to high-hat makes it "dated," then this is totally retro! :p

Sorry to trash your review, but I really hate how they characterize her. She has her place in pop music, but she is not a jazz artist - and she won't be unless she gets rid of all of her annoying nuiances and focuses on what's important - her sound.

No idea where this came from... but your post Talas reminded me (again no idea why) of this AMAZING blues singer that was on David Letterman's show in the US about a year or so ago...

her name is Bettye Lavette and I will say I was moved to tears by her performance of "Little Sparrow".

Christina has an amazing voice, but Bettye can move you with hers....

Hey now! This is musical raves AND rants!!

I know you aren't comparing her to those singers, but others are, and that's what ticks me off! :)
