Fence gave way and layed down for his passage and sprang back up. the loops holding the links to the poles were surely broken.

i dont think so arawn, looking at the fense there is no way that it would have sprung back right into place if a car going 80 hit it.

The chain link cloth itself isn't attached to the ground, it's attached to the posts and the top-rail.
The only thing holding it to the posts are metal ties. If the car drives into the fence, and the posts hold ... the ties on the post will pop off and the fence will pivot along the top-rail as though it had a hinge on top... like a doggy door; which would allow a car to pass through (under).

Smoke and mirrors ... smoke and mirrors.
The fence would have impressive impact warping in the links themselves. They would not escape that pristinely even if the car did pop the ties without it skewing the post. To transfer enough energy to snap those ties, the links themselves would have to absorb the impact and transfer it link to link back to the ties.
This would result in a warping pattern of the actual links from the point of impact to the ties... the actual impact point would have less damage then the links around it.
Find me a follow up on this :D
