As most of you know my computer knowledge is severely lacking. That said I'm looking to either upgrade my current PC to get me through another 1.5 years or purchase a new rig. My Rig is 2 years old now.

I'd like to just upgrade the video card and perhaps a bit more RAM at a minimum. What should I be shooting for? How difficult is this to change?

I'm also seeing that new games require Vista? Do I have a way around that or do I have to bit the bullet and upgrade?

Regardless I'll be using this PC for a second computer on the desk or my primary for a bit longer.

Think of my computer abilities as a monkey working on your PC, and difficulty as such.

Any/all thoughts welcome?!?

depends on what you have now Aind but replacing thats stuff is fairly basic

9 series nvidia cards should be out soon so that meens 8 series will be cheaper very soon.

What does it have for ram now

Believe only 2 gig of ram.

Is that enough for now? Should I upgrade the type of ram?

Yea I was reading that the 9 series will be out Jan. Is it worth waiting for? Cost doesn't matter, as long as I don't have to mess with it in the near future.

2 gig is enough for anything you are likely doing on the computer at this time

Aind, what do you have now, and how much do you want to spend?

Knowing Aindayen, I would project a bigger hard drive for all the porn that he downloads. I was thinking 3 terrabytes of space should suffice .

When does the 9 series come out? I'm thinking of buying the top of the line when it does. (money to burn!)

If you were going to go with a Video card I would recommend a 8800GT. It's the best bang for the buck and benchmarks better then the 8800GTS which costs ~100-150 more.

As for Ram, I'd check what your motherboard supports. In the past year DDR ram has dropped in price drasticly. 2GB of the best timings you can afford at a reasonable cost from a manufacturer such as Muskin, Crucial or OCZ should be plenty.

Both Video Card & Ram are incredibly easy to replace. I do dare say PCI / PCIe & Ram are the easiest pieces of a computer to replace.

Vinen, on Newegg the 8800 GT and the 8800GTS are selling for about the same. The GT is also completely sold out. Once nVidia can get their supply up the price should drop, but I wouldn't buy one right now.

Ahh, hadn't seen the GTS price drop. Last I knew they were running 379-400+Rebate. I always forget about the 320 version of the GTS too -.-;; which is about equal in price to the GT.
