Things have been good. I haven't been playing any MMOs for a couple years, which I think has been good for me. I get my fix in games like Mass Effect and The Witcher these days. I'm also fooling people into thinking I'm a respectable adult now and then...

How about you?

Respectable adult? I thought that was just a legend, similar to the Dragon Spine Trophy dropping off of Gruul...

People tend to think that I'm a successful college student at a highly respected institute as well, and I suppose there are times when that flashes through. But we all know the truth.

LOL, the face we must show at work...

Vidmer you've given up MMO's completely or just until another good one comes along?

I wouldn't say completely, but it would take something pretty amazing to convince me to sink the time again. It would have to be something more than an EQ/WOW clone.

Sadly, I think the commercial success of WOW means a heavy dose of clones for the foreseeable future.

I agree. I think they are going to make things easy so they appeal to those with limited playtime and abilities.

If you want to try WoW you can use Ain just to say hey to everyone...

Gotcha. Evidently I took play as play at all, rather than raid and wtfpwn shit like old days.

I think the biggest problem is the people who want things difficult/etc.../broken are the minority. I know with myself, there is no way I could do the shit I did in EQ1 at my current stage in life.

It's a truly delicate balance to make achievements meaningful while making the game accessible to people who have less time, or short blocks of time. I certainly can't play like I did back in EQ1 days, which keeps me from being able to sample the "real game" within WOW. Non-MMO's let me approach gaming in satisfying bites.

I've seen some interesting approaches to this problem in the non-RPG realm, but with WOW doing so well in sales who would risk trying out a new model?

Maybe it's for the best for me, I figure that the MMORPG realm might start getting much more appealing about the time I've "settled down."
