Over the past week, my Calculus 2 class was given a project to use Epicycloids and Hypocycloids to come up with an interesting graphical representation.
We were given 7 days (2 of which still remain!!) to come up with our own representation and were given a base representation on which we could gather ideas and information.
Here is the original:

After roughly 800 processing seconds (and many, many, many, MANY changes, small and large) we come to this:

I thought it rather interesting to see the change. I can't even BEGIN to trace each individual step that brought me from the original to where I am now, or even in reverse. It was a lot of trying this, reverting to that, re-doing this, and so on and so forth.
I'm not entirely sure it is finished because I can't figure out how to change the thickness of individual (or groups) of functions without having those selected functions appear on another graph. Ideally, all the blue rings would be much bolder (thicker) to allow for a bit more distinction between the functions. I'd also like to change that green to a much darker green, but I've yet to find a way to color something in this graphing utility outside of its extremely narrow color code words.
So, now you see that I'm not an entirely unproductive person. Just most of the time.
