The former running back was not hurt in the robbery, during which two people stole Mendenhall's wallet and cellular telephone, his mother, Sybil Mendenhall, told the Chicago Tribune.
"He didn't get hit or anything, he didn't get hurt or anything," Sybil Mendenhall said. "He's fine."
Police spokesman John Mirabelli said a man and a woman were robbed at the lakefront around 2 a.m. Monday by two offenders, but declined to identify the victims. No one was in custody for the crime, he said.
"It was obviously a scary moment," Mendenhall's agent, Mike McCartney, told the Chicago Sun-Times. "But he is fine. He is doing great. He said he doesn't have anything that is worth his life."
The Steelers (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67067) selected Mendenhall with the 23rd pick in this year's NFL draft. The 20-year-old Mendenhall skipped his senior year at Illinois to enter the draft. He was the 2007 Big Ten offensive player of the year.

That blue text color on the blue background really sucks. Can't read a damn thing unless I highlight the "invisible" text.

you know when I was a kid, I would wear my Steelers tobaggan hat and jacket while I watched every game on TV. If I didn't wear my gear, the steelers were gonna lose:)

We had a fire in the apt complex we lived and those two things were the only items I made sure to grab:)

I don't know Ain, I know I have been out in the city many times and when it is 2am there it just doesn't "feel" that late.

Shit, I remember quite a few times being down on Division closing the bars at 5am, not knowing it was that late. Then we said screw it, we are this close and it is already 5am, lets just go up to Six Flags and wait there until it opens.

He was reported to be with his mom, so maybe they were just out talking about him getting drafted and stuff.

and he's a U of I guy so odds are pretty good he knows the area

but sheesh in the past month knowing what little of know about chicago, I'd be in my room with the lights out and the doors barricaded:) The last place I'd be would be out for a walk at night

I guess 2AM isn't late, but I wouldn't be down on the lake around that time. In the city I agree. I'm usually hailing a cab and trying to formulate the phrase, "take me get a burritto" around this time.

I hadn't read that he was with his mother. Interesting. My parents go to sleep at 7:00 PM...
