So does anyone know of a really good web based anti-virus/malware for vista?

If you mean for a one time use Kaspersky's is alright but you will need Java i believe. If you just mean free AV's, I believe Avast, AVG, and a couple others are considered pretty solid.

Vista gets a lot of bad PR... I don't have *many* problems with it.

If you try and stuff your 7 year old shit in a case and install vista and think there will not be issues, then you need to just go jump off a bridge. Vista had the same problems that XP had, it was a jump and a cut off of old techs and folks weren't happy about it. It was more an issue with the software and hardware vendors that were given the info to make all these things work but choose not to than it was Vista's. Lot more money in it for the software and hardware vendors if they just cut everything off and make you buy new shit.

I remember putting XP on my machine at home and my Lexmark printer stopped working and Lexmark just basically wrote those folks off that had the printers from 3 years before. Apple's OS doesn't have these issues because NO ONE WRITES software for Apple, but Apple and a select few other folks that they make conform to everything they do which is kinda funny since MS tried to show folks the shear amount of non compliance from folks with Vista by the warnings that pop up you have to click on and yet again that was Vista's fuck up, hilarious. If MS put out a machine with its software and cut PC folks ablity to plug and play whatever they wanted with every brand they wanted off, there would be folks screaming bloody murder for decades. Apple gets away with it, becasue they've never really left their biz model of Hard ware and Soft ware from the same people.

Thats my 2 cents of course!

As far as Norton not catching anything it is probably mal ware or spy ware or ad ware that it wasn't designed to catch. Try using spybot or adaware to rid the machine of that.

I remember Burnem ran spy bot once and got 700 things or some shit lol.

I miss Windows 2000 :(
I got it after all the problems were ironed out, and it was quick and nice. XP was a jump in system reqs and RAM usage, but not as big a leap as Vista was.

Btw, I think AVG is ok :)

Avira Antivir with avnotify.exe having no execution privilege is the way to go!
