I thought paying 400 for my dog was extravagant. $950 is to much for a dog you aren't gonna be hunting with.

haha yeah that one was pretty cute, i loved when he comes bounding up, falls and sits then paws at the air like "too fat...can't...walk...any...farther..." hehe

I'm a fan of the two that have amost all black on their back, one is all black with white on his shoulders....the other one has a single white patch on its hip...and i like the one they called "speaker" with the little white tip on the end of his tail...

and we could have gotten a dog from a different litter that cost less...but the thing is that the father of that litter had also fathered another litter that was available and honestly fathered every single litter from those 2 breeders...and he didn't even have very good certificates of health on his eyes and hips...so we chose to spend a little bit more and get a dog from a breeder that likes to mix up the gene-pool and had healthier certified (and registered) dogs...

we have to drive quite a ways to get it...6 hours...but i think that in the end if it saves us vet bills for hip dysplasia etc. then its worth it.

it will cost less in health bills in the long run as well as i know what I am getting instead of a random puppy from the pound...and i swear i downloaded pictures and posted them on here... blah.

in some ways yes, but if it comes from 2 unhealthy parents it doesn't matter does it? it has a great possibility to not only get sick but to inherit bad genes from both breeds. besides, you get a puppy from a shelter and you don't know the temperament of its parents, you don't know how big it is going to get because most times they have no idea what the parents were...and you don't know what kind of baggage it comes with. If it was taken away from (or abandoned by) its mother too early in life it could have some serious psychological problems. and although I agree that these dogs need to be saved, I wasn't going to roll the dice on my first dog. I know English Springer Spaniels, I grew up with one that I trained myself, so i know what I am getting into. I don't think I should need to explain myself because I bought a pure breed instead of a shelter dog...and if you are going to get a pure bred dog, that should be around the price you are going to pay, anywhere from 700 and up. I get money off of the initial price of the dog when he goes to puppy obedience and gets neutered that brings the initial cost of the actual puppy down. You pay any less for a pure bred dog and you are most likely looking at a breeder who pops out enough puppies to lower their prices. (aka puppy mills, hobby breeders etc.) these people don't take the time that is required to make sure that they get a healthy puppy. Which is also why i didn't choose another litter that was going for less, because i found out that they breed their bitch every year with the same male so that they could get "tri colored" springers and attempt to sell them for more, even though the hip and eye certs on the parents weren't very good. So instead, i chose a dog that although more expensive, is healthy and well bred from show and field lines to give me a well rounded pup that loves to play fetch, has a great personality and temperament and will make a great therapy dog when he gets older.

And Areo, it is a Cairn Terrier, and he was rather old and didn't really want to socialize with anyone, he ended up disciplining the puppies who were bothering him (just a growl and a little nip which is what adult dogs do to keep the puppies in line) a little later and went and curled up on the couch and took a nap.
