Once you have tasted my 2 inch Lumpia you will never go back to that old limp egg roll!
Let me give you a historical synopsis of The Lumpia, which in Filipino culture is highly worshipped and protected. We will kill you if you dare touch, stroke, eat, look or lick The Lumpia without permission. Back to the subject at hand.
Lumpia are pastries of the Philippines and Indonesia of Chinese origin and are similar to spring rolls. The recipe, both fried and fresh versions, was brought by the Chinese immigrants from the Fujian province of China to Southeast Asia and became popular where they settled in the Philippines and Indonesia. In the Netherlands, it is spelled loempia which is the old Indonesian spelling for lumpia and has also become the generic name for "spring roll" in Dutch. A variant is the Vietnamese lumpia, wrapped in a thinner piece of pastry, in a size close to a spring roll though the wrapping closes the ends off completely, which is typical for lumpia.
Above all else, the Filipino Lumpia Hubad is what I consider "The One". Lumpia Hubad literally means naked spring roll.
The difference between the Chinese and Filipino version of the Lumpia is that the Filipino version has meat. Let me repeat that again The Filipino version of The Lumpia has MEAT. You want to eat man meat you eat Filipino Lumpia. And if you want to eat meat that is naked you eat Lumpia Hubad 4 life.
