I didn't see a beer thread that was active at least in 2009, so I thought I'd start one (possibly a new one? I can't believe you guys wouldn't have one already)...

We were at a random Fred Meyer in Beaverton this weekend (a bit off our normal path), and this one had a HUGE beer section! We were in heaven. We picked up many things to try. At the moment I'm quite happy with a Boddingtons nitro can pour, which comes out remarkably close to the real deal from England! It's even an Imperial pint, which of course doesn't fit in my glassware (I shall have to remedy that).

It's definitely a session beer, nice and easy to drink, not complex at all. Ever since we got back from the UK we've been searching out authentic ales. (We still haven't found ANY pub in Portland that serves English ale on cask, but we're still looking.)

I've got a lot more beer to ramble on about. What do you guys like?

Not exactly beer, but my dad's friend unloaded some extra O. P. Anderson Aquavit on us... pretty good!

It seems like I'm always in the "trying new beer" state, I generally prefer darker microbrews/imports, porters, stouts, etc. But I like some of the oddball fruit Lambic-type beers also, it just depends on my whim that particular day. Some Favs: Black Butte Porter, Moose Drool, Widmer Hefeweizen, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Anchor Steam Porter, Boddingtons Pub Ale (good stuff eh Allara!)... Ah, too many to list

One pretty good find I had lately was Kirkland branded beer variety pack at Cosco, I was a little hesitant to buy "generic" beer but I have a few people recommend it and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! It was like $18 for a full case. It wasn't the greatest beer(s) I've ever had, but a good day-to-day drinker (and pretty cheap to boot).

My all time favorite beer = Guinness Draught in the widget can (enjoyed at 42 degrees in a Guinness glass poured nice and slow, man I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it!)

We enjoy Horse Brass, but when we were there last they didn't have any English ales on cask. They did have a few good local IPAs on cask, however.

MMM Chimay. My two favorite belgian beers are:http://www.specialtybeer.com/images/beer_CARACOLE.jpg http://www.2beerguys.com/images/forblog/logo_fin_du_monde.jpg

Caracole (Snail) can be hard to find it is from a very small brewery in Wallonia (Southern Belgium) called Brasserie Caracole. La Fin Du Monde (The End of the World) is pretty easy to get. It is made by an AMAZING authentic belgian brewery located in Canada. I would recomend trying any and all brands created by Unibroue.

Small brewery just outside Toronto. They have a "cask night" once a month where you can go for a tour hang out and drink. One of the Brew Masters creates a single cask of any flavor they like and everyone gets to drink it. Good times.

I'm more of a Darker Beer person .. When I do drink Beer, this is what I like: Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout ... That or a Guinness, or Black Butte.

Anyone ever have The Dominator?

Doing another selection we picked up from that Fred Meyer: Rogue Brutal Bitter. Rogue is of course a local brewery; I've had most of their stuff and Brutal Bitter is by far the best one. Going to have to pick up a lot more of this.

Check this one out if you can find it: Deschutes Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale.

I had it this weekend. IT IS AHMAYZING! They had the deschutes barrel looking trailer pouring beer all day. 3 dollar 22 oz beers, I had more than is reasonable or safe.
