NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of video game maker Activision Blizzard Inc. jumped in premarket trading Thursday after its fourth-quarter results outstripped expectations and the company said it would pay a dividend for the first time.

The stock rose 57 cents, or 5.6 percent, to $10.67 ahead of regular trading.

Activision, which produces the "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft" titles, posted a loss of $286 million, or 23 cents per share. That compares with a loss of $72 million, or 5 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 5 percent to $1.56 billion.

But stripping out one-time charges, the company earned 49 cents per share, better than the 43 cents predicted in a Thomson Reuters survey of analysts.

Adjusted revenue, which includes revenue from online game components that draw revenue over an extended period, was $2.5 billion, beating analysts' expectations for $2.23 billion.

In a note to investors, Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian called it a "standout quarter in an otherwise sluggish industry." He kept a "Buy" rating on the stock.

Note, if you got one, you are obligated to inform to brag and inform hoss members about it. Though due to the whole disclosure agreement I'm sure you'll have to sign, do not tell us about it on WoW and only in the forum. I would bet money that Blizzard is watching for heavy starcraft discussions from those that got in with WoW accounts to ban them from the beta.

It's a closed beta, but, the beta forums are readable by the public, just like during the WoW beta. Anyone in the beta should be able to discuss it pretty freely.

They aren't, the only thing available are 1v1 and 2v2 games.

Not impressed with it so far. It's pretty much BGH on every map with similar stuff but just looks a little better on higher resolutions...I think the thing that made it boring was the same Zerg vs Protoss vs Terran. it would be a different story if they added a 4th race. Oh well ...

I have mixed feelings after just a few games.

On the one hand, they did a great job with a lot of the new units and the uses they can provide.

On the other hand, the game really feels and plays like it is catered to the ultra-serious players. I was a *BEAST* at Starcraft 1 and I'm kind of stumbling around in Starcraft 2. Part of that is I just don't know what to prepare for, but even a lot of the little changes are just aggravating me. I was surprised at just how effective those terran jump pack units are at harassing, especially early on. I also really don't like how the pathing was changed and how they added in random rock formations and whatnot that need to be destoryed in order to expand or attack the opposition. It also feels really awkward knowing where your opponent is at the start of the match, though that may change by the time the game goes live.

I was very unimpressed with it at Blizzcon. Certainly not a decades worth of improvement over SC (which still is inferior to TA in every way but for the marketing hype . . .), Diablo 3 looked far better .....

I've entered into the TA vs SC argument before, and its not one I can see either side every truly winning on.

I do agree, however, that SC2 isnt a decade better than SC1.

GameStop (and possibly other places) are giving away SC2 Beta Keys when you reserve a copy of the game. Minimum $5 down on the game, works in-store or online. I guess it is a limited time deal too, not sure. My son is just as excited for SC2 as I am, his eyes got all big when I told him I got access to the beta for him. ;)
