A lot of the people who do the souping of cars, at least around here, are asian. At least, that's who it started with. Hence the term "Rice Rocket".

Now it seems that every jackass likes to make his car seem faster by slapping on 200 pounds of fibreglass and destroying their car's aerodynamics.

:D

nwinn
11-05-2002, 11:35 PM
I thought 'rice rocket' came from being light little cars that could probly run on rice-water... lol

Eomer
11-06-2002, 12:12 AM
Well, another way of thinking about it, is that up until recently, the vast majority of the cars getting all that stuff added to them were Japanese as well.

Now of course, we have people souping up Neons. I mean, why god?

Elidroth

You also have to add the 'bumblebee trapped in a coffee can' exhaust to complete the image. To be truly 'rice' though, you need to add LOTS of stickers, preferably with one 'type R' on the rear..

BTW.. this is what real cars look like..

I always thought it was called a rice burner, or a pocket rocket

Daisiee
11-06-2002, 07:43 AM
You're also forgetting the colored rims or those new tires that have the colored inserts down the middle elidroth then along with the bumblebee in a glass jar exhaust the look is complete.

Eomer
11-06-2002, 09:03 AM
WOW! You were going to college five years ago!?

ima see if I can dig up a picture of my racecar: a mid 80's Chevette! Well, we actually have two. Ice racing is fun as shit, although only when it's Chevette's only. Sucks in the rubber to ice class, because Volkswagen rabbits kick the shit outta me :/. And that Supercharged pulsar is a bastige.

Its Original Its 80% Standard! and how the body kits weighs it down i dont know =o And why do all american cars look liek wanabe bat cars! :D

Eomer
11-06-2002, 09:45 AM
Because the batmobile in the movies (at least the first two) was a Corvette, jackass :D

Loniel Bonewalker

Not sure if that was a trolling post Loniel, but I will bite:

While the Viper is unrefined as hell, and depending on the person just as ugly, there are few factory made cars (ie:not tuned to shit) that can even come close to it. Not to mention that the cars that can are generally twice to three times the price, at least. The Corvette Z06 is almost in the same territory as well, and the price thing again applies. While I disagree with the approach that American car companies take (brute force as opposed to subtle refinement), you can't argue much with the results.

Personally, I would never ever buy a Viper, but good god it's performance is unreal.

Elidroth
11-07-2002, 07:36 AM
Well.. I'd be happy to argue that point at the track. On racing slicks I can get over 1.1G lateral acceleration before I lose traction, and I've been under 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile..

And Eomer.. I can eat Vipers up all day on a road course. Vipers are insane at the drag strip though, even stock.

Eomer
11-07-2002, 07:44 AM
Hmm, the magazine I just read on the Viper put it at 1.0g road hold, and the Z06 was .96 or something like that. I would imagine those are both with stock performance tires, and not slicks though.

I`d Take a viper plz :D . Being a 1.4 litre engine it aint too quick, but with a K&N Cossie induction kit and superchip boosted it too 145 bhp..... Still low but insurance over here sucks.... :o top end at the moment is 127mph.... But i owned the fuck out of an audi a4 :D

That's a not bad top end for a little engine like that.

Am only driving a Ford Probe GT atm, it's got about 160hp I think (never really checked), and it's top speed is about the same. However it's rev limited, cause it is geared so damn high (which is a good thing, it's incredibly quick off the line, especially for a FWD car).

And I don't go around making fun of your damn poetry Vin!

I read somewhere that the stock brakes on a viper aren't 'strong' enough, or something, to handle the horsepower that a viper can put out... that in itself is enough to make me not like them, they are pretty ooglie too! :D

k, here are some comparisons of stock Vipers and Z06's:

Price:

Viper: roughly $83,000
Z06: $50,000

Acceleration 0-60:

Viper: 3.9 seconds
Z06: 4.1 seconds

Braking 70-0:

Viper: 152 feet
Z06: 160 feet

Roadhold

Viper: 1g
Z06: .96g

All those figures might be off a bit, just going by the graphs in the November issue of car and driver. Like I said, both cars stock. Elidroth, I kind of have a hard time believing your Z06 gets 1.1g grip on slicks... unless them tires and pavement be super super hot and your tires last about 2 minutes :p

forget where i heard this but: (if this is old, then so be it, not saying its not, so welcome to I don't care :D)

Yesterday, scientists for Health Canada suggested that men should take a look at their beer consumption, considering the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer. The theory is that drinking beer makes men turn into women. To test the finding, 100 men were fed 6 pints of beer each. It was then oberved that 100% of the men gained weight, talked excessively without making sense, became overly emotional, couldn't drive, failed to think rationally, argued over nothing, and refused to apologize when wrong. No futher testing is planned.

They're plenty strong enough.. for about 2 to 3 hard pushes.. Then they're so hot they don't do a damn thing. Easiest way to beat a Viper on the track is sucker them into late braking into a couple turns.. by the 4th turn.. they're into the dirt.
