There was a thread a while back about beer....one of my favorite topics ;) Lots of people made much of the quality of Stell Artois so I saw it on tap at one of the local bars and tried it. Honestly I wasn't real impressed. It was decent but nothing to write home about. For some reason I was in the mood for a non stout the other day and picked up a 6 pack of Stella bottles. The difference was amazing....this stuff in a bottle was damn good.
That's the end of today's beer revelations :D
Stella sucks =/ most overrated beer there is

damn now im h ave to run to the store to get two pints of each!
I like the disclamier for the double bastard ale
This is a lacerative muther of a beer. The evil big brother of Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is strongly suggested you stay far, far away from this beer. Those foolish enough to venture close enough to taste will experience a punishingly unforgiving assault on the palate. 'Course there's always the masochists...
All beer is over-rated. So over-rated I quit drinking it at age six-and-a-half ;>

Stella is okay, nothing spectacular. Tastes very similar to Heineken. I like both, but won't sell my soul for a cold pint of either.
I think people are drawn to it because it comes in those fancy, albeit slightly homosexual, bottles.

There's a good chance that my reaction to it was actually just because I drink almost exclusively Stouts at least at home. I was in the mood for a lager and this is what I decided on.......much different than my usual brew. So maybe my ability to accurately rate the "pale" beers has deteriorated ;)
Either way....I enjoyed it.

Not sure I have an absolute favorite that is persistant. Different beers for different times and always depending on just what I feel like drinking at a given time. I like stouts and Guinness and O'Haras are 2 of my favorites there. Rika has suggessted one a few times that I keep wanting to try....I look for it for a bit and don't find it....then I usually forget the name heh. I think it was Rasputin something or other.
In the summer on a picnic or at the beach I actually like a Corona with a lime....cliched as that may be. I went for a little while where I was drinking Moosehead Ice....kind of a nice nutty flavor to it. I like Sam Adams quite a bit. Killians and Heineken are also decent and always available at the grocery store. Bass ale is good when I want something a little lighter than my usual stouts.
Unfortunately I tend to have a bad memory that is worsened by the consumtion of that which I am trying to remember on occasion. I have tried a ton of different beers in some of our good local bars that have a wide selection and just have a hard time remembering what I really liked.....one I tried recently and liked was called Blue moon I think.....had a hint of fruitiness to it that I wouldn't have expected to like much.

Bluewhale ale is a nice one if you want a break from stouts.

Stella Artois has got to be the one major blemish that Belgium would rather just pretend doesn't exist... that beer is just plain and drab in general, especially in comparison to other Belgian beers. I tried it once and couldn't become impressed with it, in any way. No character, no memorable flavor of any kind.
I've listed my favorite Canadian beers before and all but 1 come from Quebec, they make really really good stuff there. Unibroue is my favorite brewery by far. They make a beer called La Terrible (obviously translated into Terrible), that is a LOT like Chimay but better. It's a belgian strong ale style, 10.5% alcohol that you can barely taste any of.
Super hard to find, unfortunately. It's not available in Ontario anywhere, and even in Quebec where it's brewed, you can only get it in a specialty store called SAQ. It's exported to a lot of States/Provinces though, so if you see it around anywhere and like the good Belgian style beers, you'll love it.
If you like stouts or especially Oatmeal Stouts, there's one brewed in Quebec as well called St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. Scores better than even the Samuel Smiths imperial stout on Ratebeer. I don't usually like stouts but this one I enjoy. (Guinness sucks, die!)

I just bought a 4 pack of sam smith's outmeal stout. the nex has a little bit left, because all of the people on base buy shitty beer. I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and if it was overrated
This beer really is that good. I can drink this anytime. Not to carbonated, smooth, not overpowering, bitter and sweet in one, great finish. I can't believe I didn't buy this earlier. Buaz seriously check this one out!
