YouTube - Apple Introduces Revolutionary New Laptop With No Keyboard
I'm sure you have all seen this but im far to lazy to go through 100 pages. Figured I would post this seeing how I despise products made by said company.
so true
"everything is under a hundred clicks away"
"virtually indestructable, unless dropped or hit"
Two of my favorite rediculous quotes. What the fuck are they smoking? I felt like I was watching the movie Idiocracy. There is NO way that that fucking piece of shit is replacing a keyboard driven laptop.
I loved when the mac fanboy was talking about how much he loved it after spending 45 mins to type an email to a friend and then the price tags being $2600 for an 8GB and 10k for a 40GB.
Oct have you never heard of the Onion? It was a joke news paper, then website, now they have these clips they put out.
One cheesy sample, overblown into a dance mix of mediocrity.
One dance mix of mediocrity inspiring two videos.
One video that is slightly ridiculous, the other that is awesome beyond words.
YouTube - Eric Prydz - Call On Me
YouTube - Call On Me Improved
Strange trivia: Eric Prydz wasn't able to release his dance mix worldwide because of potential copyright violation. The group who made the spoof video had to slightly alter their copy of the Eric Prydz mix version because of potential copyright violation.
I never underestimate the power of stupid, therefore it is easy to imagine Apple or any corporation making a product of such obvious ridiculousness that you shake your head in awe. Maybe the drugs and alcohol are finally destroying my poor mind and any sense of logic.
Here ya go Peotr.

$17,000 for just the 24 SSDs. That's awesome though.
Not sure why they were defragging an SSD.
Just to time it. The copying an entire DVD before the DVD landed from being thrown out the window was just awesomesauce.
Why Defrag? Why open everything in the start menu at once? Haha. That was awesome. The 2 quad core CPU's may have helped though ;)
I couldn't see if they were defragging a drive or defragging the array.
Defragging an SSD is pointless - I'm not even sure Windows 7 will let you do it.
Defragging an array is still important, though. Especially Raid 5. There's another term for it, but I can't think of it.
It looked to me like they were trying to defrag the drive... Even more confusing was the fact that there were only something like 21 files on the drive...
It depends on the server. A file server could do that pretty easy, I think, but a transaction server (database) has files that grow. A RAID controller can balance the stripes and distribute the parity information, but it's not smart enough to optimize a dynamic file. And it's not like a table can be considered in its whole and divided proportionally, the system has to append, it would be impossible to write out an entire data file each time there is a change. And atomicity will often make the appends too small to divide.
If you have huge data sets with large-scale transactions and peak transaction times (that is, business hours) you're going to develop unbalanced stripes, and if the system is reaching peak neither the RAID controller nor the database is gonna be allowed to do any computations that might tear a write.
Even after things have calmed down the database will be looking at its own optimizations (when a database is indexing it will move appended information to a logical location - sort of like alphabetizing), so letting a RAID controller attempt to balance stripes while a database is attempting to reorganize datasets is madness.

P.S. None of this has anything to do with that video. I couldn't figure out why they would defrag an SSD.
P.P.S. Fuck you, Stosh, I can hear the little gears in your brain turning. You best be choking back that smirk, mister. I do not want to be hearing or smelling any of your poopoo stinky smirky-smirks about indexing.
P.P.P.S. Little gears for little brains, Mr. Smirky-Smirk.
They ran it to just show how fast it was, how hard is that for folks to understand?
That is pretty awesome but I think the novelty would wear off pretty quick.
Pretty sure there are better things to do with the $17,000.
Onyxia is srs bzns.
