I did a little mountain climbing over the weekend. Climbed Mount Shasta in northern California. This was my first real mountaineering experience. It was pretty amazing, a lot of damn work, but stepping on to that summit was an incredible feeling.
The view from the road up to the trailhead, the route we took is right up the center of the mountain in this picture, it is called Avalanche gulch (the easiest route, but the worst name):

I broke my board during the end of the run and kept going even with no tail ;) I was shocked when I won, I didn't think I did that well on my run, plus I couldn't really see what the other guys were doing (it was an open jam-session type format). So as I sat there awaiting the results from the judges (it seemed like they took for-ev-er!) I was kinda bummed about my broken board. I had only been using it for a couple months. Then as they read off the names through 2nd place, I was like "oh damn, I won!!!" New board, woot!

Heh heh, I didn't break it on purpose ;) I came down hard from a jump/air and I guess my board decided it was sick of holding my ass up and the tail went... crunch! It sucks because I landed the trick, its just my foot was a little too far back on the tail. I haven't broken a board like that in years. I generally avoid big drops and stair sets that I used to do. The old knees/back don't really like that kind of stuff after your 20's, heh heh.
I feel ya, my back decided to start hating me right around 30.
