Muse isn't well known in North America because we've already been listening to Radiohead for a decade or more....
I kid I kid! They're alright. Only heard Absolution, and I thought it was pretty good. Bought half the songs I really really liked, half I skip every time. Again with the Radiohead comparison!

That was the first thing I said to Eli when he introduced them to me, "Yeah, their OK, or I could just listen to Radiohead." But they are actually quite different. The guitar is insane. Its only the singing style that gives that Radiohead impression.

Muse is ok but they aren't anything special. Absolution is a decent enough CD. Stockholm Syndrome and Hysteria are probably the two best tracks on it. The Radiohead comparison isnt just in the guy's voice sounding like Thom's; Muse's music sounds a lot like The Bends-era Radiohead except the guitars are crunchier and less original.
They are also definitely not unheardof in the USA just because they aren't playing arenas like Metallica does
If you can find a copy, try "No More Color" or "Punishment for Decadence" by Swiss metalers Coroner.
A must have for any and all guitarists. It's what Ingwie would sound like if he played speed metal without his pussy tone.
