NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of video game maker Activision Blizzard Inc. jumped in premarket trading Thursday after its fourth-quarter results outstripped expectations and the company said it would pay a dividend for the first time.
The stock rose 57 cents, or 5.6 percent, to $10.67 ahead of regular trading.
Activision, which produces the "Call of Duty" and "World of Warcraft" titles, posted a loss of $286 million, or 23 cents per share. That compares with a loss of $72 million, or 5 cents per share, a year earlier. Revenue fell 5 percent to $1.56 billion.
But stripping out one-time charges, the company earned 49 cents per share, better than the 43 cents predicted in a Thomson Reuters survey of analysts.
Adjusted revenue, which includes revenue from online game components that draw revenue over an extended period, was $2.5 billion, beating analysts' expectations for $2.23 billion.
In a note to investors, Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian called it a "standout quarter in an otherwise sluggish industry." He kept a "Buy" rating on the stock.

Note, if you got one, you are obligated to inform to brag and inform hoss members about it. Though due to the whole disclosure agreement I'm sure you'll have to sign, do not tell us about it on WoW and only in the forum. I would bet money that Blizzard is watching for heavy starcraft discussions from those that got in with WoW accounts to ban them from the beta.
It's a closed beta, but, the beta forums are readable by the public, just like during the WoW beta. Anyone in the beta should be able to discuss it pretty freely.
If anyone with a beta key can remark on whether the map editor and scripting engines are available, I would be very interested in hearing about it!
